Basics of Digital Photography workshop

In this workshop, participants learn how to load photographs from a digital camera on to a computer and perform basic re-sizing as well as basic manipulation and presentation techniques.  Technical information will include detailed camera usage, basic photography skills, powerpoint presentation skills, and using Microsoft Picture Manager.

 

How to Use the Camera (9:30-10)

  • battery insertion and removal & charging
  • memory card insertion and removal
  • taking a picture and/or movie
  • viewing pictures & movies
  • erasing a picture
  • auto vs. manual flash

 

Some Advanced Camera Tips (10:00 - 10:20)

 

  • shooting magnified closeups - (p.34, adv. manual)
  • 'stitching' a panorama (p.44, adv. manual)

 

Basic Photographic Tips (10:20-10:45)

 

(10:45-11) shooting break

 

How to put the photographs on a computer (and what to do with them) (11-11:45)

  • storing photos properly - raw vs. final photos
  • using Microsoft Picture Manager to make minor adjusments and resize photos
  • using Microsoft Powerpoint to create a photo/text/audio presentation
  • photo importing and layout for MS Word

Basic Blogging and Web 2.0 skills

Participants will create their own text and/or photo blogs and learn how to share and promote their blogs online.  Additionally, we will discuss an array of web 2.0 tools and how they can be used to drastically enhance organization of teaching and personal information and resources.

2-day Digital Storytelling workshop

participants create a digital story using a combination of digital imaging, photography, and sound recording. The short pieces are then displayed and shared online via the participants' blogs.

1-day Media Literacy for Educators workshop

participants learn the basics of critical Media Literacy in the context of working with young people in the digital age
