What are different kinds of 'difficult circumstances'?

-lots of movement

-too dark

-too bright

-difficult sound environments

-limited/no professional equipment

White Balance

-using auto wb

-using manual wb

 

Exposure

-riding exposure

-using the zebra function to monitor wash-out

 

Shutter Speed

-altering your shutterspeed can help in very dark situations, if absolutely necessary. 

 

Natural light

-the sun (or streetlights) are your lights

-watch out for backlight!

-dont't be afraid to ask your subject to move

 

Audio

-mic types

-adapters

-making audio adjustments on the fly

-headphones!

-using line (board) audio

-carry tape to tae your mic to something if necesary

 

Tripods & monopods

-use 'em if you gotem!

-cheap is better than none

-if you dont have a tripod - act like one!

 

Zoom

-stay zoomed out as much as possible

-limit shots which include zooming

 

Interviewing on the fly

-framing

-watch headroom

-get close to you subject if using on-cam mic

-stay zoomed out for steady shots

-sit the camera on objects if you dont have a tripod

 

Quality b-roll

-'shoot like an editor'

-use pans, tilts, & zooms - but carefully!

 

Teamwork

-make use of a friend or assistant without a camera

    -interviewer

    -wrangler

    -spotter

-divide labor with two cameras

    -b-roll vs. interviews

    -long shot vs. closeups (meetings/discussions)
